Where have we been? Around

19 07 2010

It’s been about a month since our last report. What can we say? We’ve been bike racing since March and things just got a little stale.  The fingers weren’t making words into sentences into paragraphs.

The team has been representing at the local races as well as some out of state action.

The team lined up on June 13th for The Reston Grand Prix. Temperatures were hot with some reports claiming over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The field was strong and angry. About 1/2 the field whittled away due to heat and the hot pace. With 8 laps to go, Cliff Chamberlain got on the front and picked up the pace even more.  Meanwhile, teammates were working on getting organized for a field sprint.  With under 2 to go, Cliff had done his job. Sunny filled in but some of the other teammates were simply caught out of position. Hey, nobody said bike racing was easy! Fife and Bruno did manage to maintain decent position for the sprint. However, a solid rider from Cycle Life rolled a tubular on the final turn taking a few riders with him. Bruno scraped together a 10th place finish with the rest of the crew spent or on the sidelines. Many lessons learned from this race.

Cliff Chamberlain controlling the front of the field in the closing laps. Maybe a little early?

The following weekend, the team lined up for The Tour of Washington County, a stage race in…Washington County, Maryland. Joe Jefferson , MABRA’s KING PIMP PROMOTER, and AVC organize this event.  Stage racing just aint our thing…yet but the team did manage to have some fun. Sunny Gill snagged a 4th place in the opening stage race. The best we could do in the TT was Cliff in 12th and Bruno in 16th. Once we got to the crit, we felt more at home. The team put four in the top 15 with Todd B (6th), Frank R (8th), and Steve F (9th), and Ian M (13th). Unfortunately, the stage race was based on time and these placings had little effect on the outcome. Bruno and Sunny got the table scraps for GC at 17th and 18th. Still, a fun weekend for the team in terms of general fun levels. Thanks to Joe Jefferson for promoting this event.  Maybe we can do an all crit stage race sometime? Hmmmmm

Sunny Gill hit the dirt in Colorado Springs, Co to participate in the CTS Intl. Classic mountain bike race. He competed in the Cat 2 field. He said the altitude was noticeable but he was able to ride hard and get Bike Doctor back on the podium with a 2nd place finish! Look at Sunny on the podium with these tater tots!!

Sunny on the Podium. We need to get him a Bike Doctor tee shirt to wear!!

Meanwhile, the rest of the team lined up for the  MABRA Crit Championships in Hagerstown, MD on July 10th. There were so many crashes in the Cat 3 race, videos of crash compilations have been created and been circulating the intertubes. Ian M. was a victim of one crash in the closing laps of the race and can be sighted walking his bike sans wheels with head down along the route. Meanwhile, Todd B kept it together and snagged another top 10 with a solid 8th place finish. Congrats to Josh Flexman of Team CycleLife for being our new MABRA Crit Champ.

That’s it for the road crew for the past few weeks. Evan E. and Jed K. have been out riding their knobby tires all over the place. Once we get updates from those guys, we’ll fill in our fans.
