Five members of Bike Doctor p/b DigiSource, Scott Giles, Pete Custer, Bruno Neto, Pete Warner & Jim Weinstein, ventured up to Lancaster, PA to take part in the P/1/2 Rock Lititz Tour this past weekend. Boy was it sure a fantastic event! Richard Ruoff and his Road Cycling League organization did an outstanding job promoting this race. It offered a fun, fast, attack filled road race on Saturday. A 9 mile team trial on Sunday and a technical city center criterium race Sunday afternoon in Downtown Lititz.
It is always impressive to participate in a stage race weekend where the organizer manages to leave the bike racer with a positive experience across the board. The courses required a unique blend of speed, tactics, climbing, bike handling skill and team work. We are SO lucky to have these types of venues to enjoy.
It wouldn’t be right to not acknowledge just how amazing the afternoon criterium was on Sunday. Downtown Lititz was absolutely packed with racers and spectators! A pro level grandstand on the finish straight, along with great music and Joe Jefferson on the mic kept the crowd excited throughout the day. And to the young gal that sung the National Anthem before the P/1/2 race….that was beautiful! CHECK IT OUT!
With results lacking from the first 2 stages, the team had nothing to lose going for broke during the criterium. Well, Scott Giles took it upon himself to salvage the weekend with an amazing display of tenacity and power during the crit. After working himself up from the back of the field, Giles made it into the move of the day with 4 others and proceeded to lap the field. Upon lapping the field, Giles immediately rolled BACK to the front of the field with 5 to go and began setting up for the chance at victory. The battle between Giles and Ryan Dewald (XO Communications) was thrilling. Dewald demonstrated why he is one of the most feared crit racers on the east coast by scorching through the final corner and winning the field sprint. Giles fought valiantly to finish among the lead riders, thus, securing a well deserved 2nd place finish. An inspirational performance for sure! His ride also catapulted him up to finish 6th on GC. If anyone knows where we can find a podium picture, we’d greatly appreciate it!
It was a great weekend of team bonding! Thank you again to all of those individuals, volunteers, promoters, officials and Lititz townspeople that put in the hard work for a very successful event! We hope to return for many years to come.
The guys would like to thank the team’s sponsors for their generous support, without whom they wouldn’t be able to promote and enjoy the sport that they love.
